Day 01 Arrival in LIVINGSTONE, ZAMBIA

Victoria Falls Aerial View

Welcome to The Victoria Falls at Livingstone, Zambia!

The Victoria Falls is one of the Seven Wonders of the World, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the world's largest, and certainly one of the most magnificent and spectacular waterfalls in the world. Formed at Livingstone town in southern Zambia on the mighty Zambezi River which forms the country's natural border with Zimbabwe, with which they share the falls, it is a natural magnet for tourists with many thousands coming every year to marvel at David Livingstone's "...scenes so lovely must have been gazed on by angels in their flight". During the river's peak flow in March to April, the 1700m wide falls unleashes up to 550million liters of water per minute into a basalt gorge 70 to 108m below in a thunderous show of might and power. The smoke that emanates during this period is really so thick and heavy that the local people christened it Mosi-Oa-Tunya, which means "The Smoke That Thunders" in the local Kololo tribes-people language, So much that the smoke tends to obstruct the best viewing. The lowest flood is in November to December when it reduces so much that it seems like small rivulets. The best time to visit is in between when the clearest views of the grandest natural spectacle in Africa. The most incredible views can be had from Liingstone Island or when possible down the 73 stair steps into the gorge's base. Popular activities in around the falls and the river include Viewing walking tours along the falls, Scenic helicopter flight of angels rides over the falls, Sunset cruises on the Zambezi River, Whitewater rafting, Bungee jumping off the Victoria Falls Bridge, Swim-up Adventures to Devil's Pool (a rock barrier inside the river just a few meters before it plunges over into the falls, as well as visit to David Livingstone's statue at the left end of the falls near Devil's Cataract.
